A piece in yesterday's New York Times suggests that the current body count in Gaza, which relies on the Hamas-led Ministry of Health, is likely a substantial undercount.
I know the scientists quoted in the article and have carefully reviewed their work on casualty counts in other conflict zones.
I first met them years ago when organizing a conference for the Canadian Foreign Ministry on health research methods and conflict analysis.
They are serious, credible researchers. This piece is deeply concerning. For a discussion of how the Gaza events are related to James Ron's 2003 book with the University of California Press, Frontiers and Ghettos: State Violence in Serbia and Israel, check out this post: https://www.jamesron.org/post/james-ron-in-2003-my-book-anticipated-the-gaza-horror, as well as this earlier version on the University of California Press website.
